Longform

About Longform

We publish essays, reportage, criticism and ideas — pieces that take as long as they need, and no longer.

Longform began in 2019 as a weekend newsletter and became a magazine by accident. We publish three to five stories a week, edited slowly and fact-checked properly. There is no advertising and there never has been; the magazine is owned by its staff and funded by roughly thirty thousand members.

Our stories are long because the subjects demand it, not because length is a virtue. If a piece can be told in 900 words we will publish 900 words. It just doesn't happen very often.
